Take advantage of a family camping holiday near Marseille to discover diving in Cassis.
Le Tombant
The Tombant de Cassidaigne lies off the coast of Cassis Bay, at the end of the plateau bordering the Cassidaigne lighthouse. Pelagic fish, peacock wrasse and moray eels can be seen in the 45-meter depth. If you look more closely, you can spot long-clawed eels hiding in the holes.
Le Fortier
This Cassis dive is sheltered from the easterly wind. The Fortier rock starts at 25 meters and drops to 35 meters. Holes in the rock reveal sars, conger eels, dentex and capons. As this dive near Cassis is reserved for the most experienced divers, they’ll be lucky enough to encounter moonfish or barracuda.
Port Pin
Situated between the calanque de Port-Miou and the calanque d’En-Vau, Port Pin offers a sandy and pebbly seabed, until it is completely covered by posidonia meadows. A calanque with turquoise waters, Port Pin’s marine fauna is a victim of its own success.
The Arena
The 6-centimeter bottom of l’Arène reveals sepioles, flatfish, spirographs and other small fish. This dive in Cassis, on the edge of the Posidonia meadow, is for beginners only.
La Pointe Cacau
The Pointe Cacau dive is sheltered from the easterly wind and mistral. Thanks to its colorful drop-off starting at 15 – 20 meters and descending to 43 meters, you can admire conger eels, sometimes lobsters, groupers, a few squids or amberjacks. On the way up, you can stop between 15 and 9 meters to see 3 cannons.
Les Rascasses
The Rascasses dive, with a bottom of between 6 and 15 centimeters, is well sheltered from the easterly wind. Its boulder field is home to posidonia and nacres, moray eels, octopus, sauper, periclimene shrimp and the occasional syngnathus, barracuda and grouper.
Castel Vieil
The Castel Vieil dive is sheltered from the Mistral and offers a profusion of corals and gorgonians thanks to its rocky niches. You’ll find groupers and the occasional saint-pierre. At its maximum depth of 15 – 17 meters, you can encounter nudibranchs, and a little further up, at 9 meters, a small concretioned L-shaped tunnel.
