Why visit the calanques by boat?

The Parc National des Calanques is probably one of the most beautiful natural sites in the Provence-Alpes-Côtes d’Azur region. It’s hard not to be overwhelmed by emotion as you discover the small coves, turquoise waters and pebble beaches surrounded by high cliffs… It’s easy to hike here from Cassis, Marseille and La Ciotat.
But if you don’t fancy walking, or if you’ve already covered the Calanques massif on foot, why not visit the calanques by boat during your vacation?
Visiting the calanques by boat means choosing a different, more impressive and intimate viewpoint. Visiting the calanques by boat also means you can swim easily, whenever you want, wherever you want. There’s something exhilarating about finding a little piece of paradise and being able to swim there with the impression of being alone in the world…

Several of these companies also offer private boat hire, which is interesting if you’re a large group or want to sail the calanques in private.

Rent a boat to explore the calanques

If you want maximum freedom as you explore the calanques, why not choose a boat rental? You can easily choose between a boat without a license or a boat with a captain. Renting a boat without a license is the ideal solution for couples, families or groups of friends wishing to enjoy the beauty and charm of the calanques at a reasonable price.

From Cassis, an unlicensed motorboat for up to 8 people costs between €250 and €500 per day. Remember to check with the rental company that the boat is authorized in the calanques, and choose one with a ladder for easy bathing and a shelter to protect you from the sun.

The rental company J.C.F Boat in Cassis also offers electric no-license boats for 3 people, enabling you to visit the calanques by boat without polluting. Price: €110 for a 3-hour trip.

When visiting the Parc National des Calanques by boat, don’t forget that this is a fragile site (both on land and under the sea) that it’s important to respect and protect!
