A deep-rooted history

The birth of the Bandol vineyard dates back to antiquity, when the Greeks imported vines to this corner of Provence. From century to century, viticulture has shaped the Bandol landscape, forging an unbreakable bond between man and this sun-drenched land. Once a trading port where wines were exported, Bandol’s reputation has grown, driven by the irreproachable quality of its crus.

Obtaining theBandol AOC in 1941 marked a key milestone, setting rigorous standards for the production of red, rosé and white wines, and establishing the reputation for excellence of the local Bandol vineyards. From generation to generation, Bandol winemakers have continued to perfect their know-how, preserving the typicity and authenticity of an exceptional appellation.

The unique characteristics of the Bandol terroir

In the heart of Provence, the Bandol vineyard terroir offers a mosaic of varied soils, with a Mediterranean climate that’s ideal for vines. The vine draws its strength from a limestone soil and a sun-drenched environment, with the beneficial influence of the sea breeze. This natural alchemy enables Bandol wines to develop remarkable complexity and elegance, whether red, white or rosé. The terroir, combined with a winemaking tradition that respects natural balances, gives Bandol wines singular notes, echoing this exceptional land.

Mourvèdre at the heart of the Bandol vineyards

The Mourvèdre grape, emblematic of the Bandol vineyards, is the mainstay of the appellation’s wines. Mourvèdre thrives in the warmth and generous sunshine of the region, contributing to the richness of Bandol‘s red wines. The winemakers, experts in mastering this demanding grape variety, sublimate its characteristics to create assertive wines of great aromatic complexity. Mourvèdre is the key to the longevity and renown of Bandol‘s reds and rosés, where it adds structure and finesse.

Bandol vineyard wines

Bandol’ s red wines are powerful, complex and full of character. Made mainly from Mourvèdre grapes, they offer aromas of black fruits, spices and leather, with subtle notes of garrigue and licorice. Their tannic structure makes them ideal for ageing, and they reveal their full richness after several years of cellaring.

Rosés from the Bandol vineyards, often referred to as “gourmet wines”, are renowned for their elegance and finesse. They are distinguished by their aromas of red fruit, citrus and flowers, with a freshness and minerality that make them perfect for summer meals.

The white wines of the Bandol vineyard, less well known but just as seductive, offer a beautiful expression of freshness and complexity. Made mainly from Clairette and Bourboulenc grapes, they are characterized by aromas of white fruit, flowers and minerality.
